Studio Design: One Music

One Music required a 5.1 editing suite that would offer very accurate performance and at the same time fit into its budgetary requirements for its Nashville office. The room immediately posed a couple of problems that would need to be overcome. One was that dimensions would not be able to be modified and the more daunting was that it was essentially a concrete bunker. Floor, ceiling and three walls were all solid concrete. Since we were not allowed to raise the floor or lower the ceiling because of height restrictions, a very careful modal evaluation would have to be made and corrected for, according to the results. Walls were framed out and covered with 1/2" drywall creating acoustic symmetry and low frequency damping that was so badly needed. Rough cedar panels floated on top of dry wall provided a limp mass for the front wall further enhancing low-end attenuation for the length modes. ASC panels were then specified for more width and length standing wave absorption while the ceiling was treated with ASC 11" half rounds and 4" of OC 703 board. Finally, all five speakers were mounted on 11" ASC Tube Traps using a proprietary mass – anchor - float technique and finished out using a PhantomFocus System™ – Mid Field. Results were well worth the effort. Everyone was very happy.
