Utilizing an amalgam of techniques, protocol, hardware and software, the PhantomFocus™ Monitoring System is a powerful tool in designing monitor systems. It concentrates first on "reach out and touch the vocalist" imaging where pinpoint detail is spread out before the listener in holographic panorama. Secondly, full and accurate frequency response is achieved by incorporating several elements that can include: speaker/listener position calculations; proper speakers stands; damping and isolation devices; subwoofer systems; laser alignment; 360 degree phase control (all- pass filter); crossovers; and corrective equalization. The success of the system will be limited by the room acoustics evaluation that must precede the process.

When implementing a PhantomFocus™ System we suggest that our clients audition several monitor selections in their new room. Because of the very subjective nature of monitor preference we encourage an open mind during these shoot-outs. We facilitate this by carefully roughing in accurate imaging and position for each pair of contestants. It is not uncommon to have previous opinions about certain speakers shattered as they hear these speakers for the first time properly set up in an accurate acoustic environment.

Once the speakers are chosen they will then be optimized for speaker/engineer positioning relative to the rooms axial modes and then lasered into position. Subwoofer selection and other tuning tools are usually differed to us to suggest the best choice for performance goals and budget. This is a comfortable way to work with the client, as he is involved incrementally with the system design. The selection of large main monitors will differ since it is generally not possible to do these shoot-outs in the same way and therefore other approaches are used.
